One of our goals is to get people out to experience nature firsthand. We like showing people how to have enjoyable walks and learn about animals and plants. We also like sharing favorite spots with people who have experience in the fields and woods. So, whether you are a beginner or seasoned naturalist, young or old, come join us on a walk!

Our outings are provided free of charge to interested members of the public, and they are organized in small groups of about four or five people.  We require that each child be accompanied by a responsible adult, either a family member or a person designated by the family. Limiting group size is a way of insuring that each child gets individual attention and a greater chance to see wildlife that may be elusive.

We tend to choose locations relatively close to the metroplex that are as undisturbed as possible, large enough to have a diversity of plants and animals, and can accommodate a hike of about one to three hours.  However, depending on what participants wish to see, outings could be planned in almost any accessible location.  We encourage the taking of photos, notes, or drawings, and our staff may capture and release an animal if appropriate, but we do not allow the collecting of specimens or any activity harmful to the place we visit.

Some outings are organized by a host agency such as a nature center. In that case, please contact them for information about registering and attending. Otherwise, please contact us to register and receive specifics about the walk you would like to attend. You can email us at contact@crosstimbersconnection.org.

Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge

9601 Fossil Ridge Rd. Fort Worth, TX 76

A hike to welcome the fall season. We will decide on a trail at the refuge and walk through the woods or beside a wetland. During our hike, we can document some of what we see using iNaturalist, the citizen science site used by naturalists, biologists, and nature lovers to document wildlife and plants. We'll spend about two hours on the trails, so this will be a fairly easy hike for most adults and older children (about 8 or older). You must register in order to join us, so we can plan appropriately for the hike (use our contact form or email michael@crosstimbersconnection.org). Once you register, we'll coordinate the exact place to meet up for the hike.

The hike is free but there is a small entrance fee for the nature center. See http://www.fwnaturecenter.org/
